Cole + Russell Architects Newletter - February 2008
Sustainable Building Design Cincinnati Fire Station No. 9

Cole + Russell Architects is proud to be the design architect for the City of Cincinnati’s newest fire station, which encompasses numerous green building principles. These features will lend conveniences and energy relief to the City while playing a responsible role with our natural resources. Fire No. 9 is nearly 20% more efficient than a comparable traditionally designed building. Some of these efficiencies include exterior sun shades to reflect light into the building, interior light shelves to reduce sun penetration and operable windows that keep heating, cooling and lighting costs down.

Fire Station No. 9 is LEED Registered with the U.S. Green Building Council making it the first City of Cincinnati owned building to apply for LEED Certification. The city will celebrate Fire Station No. 9’s opening on February 27th.

C+RA strives to incorporate green principles in every project. Look for future announcements on several of our LEED design projects including the North Avondale Elementary School; Madison PreK-12 School; the Vintage Club Design House; and the Roanoke, Virginia Fire Stations No. 3 and No. 5.
