FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Stratford Heights at the University of Cincinnati Named “Best Community” Stratford Heights at the University of Cincinnati will receive “The Best in American Living Award – Best Community 151 units and over” from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) on February 6, 2007, at the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla. Cole + Russell Architects, Inc. (C+RA) served as the lead architect for the project owned by the University Heights Community Urban Redevelopment Corporation (UHCURC), a non-profit development company comprised of the Heights Community Council, Greek Affairs Council and the University of Cincinnati. The team also consisted of Mackey Mitchell Associates, the student housing design consultant and the Heights Development Company, a builder/developer joint venture including Towne Properties and Miller-Valentine Group. Collaboratively, C+RA and Mackey Mitchell designed a community that draws on the historic neighborhood graced with Tudor revival estates while creating a contemporary quadrant of community-oriented group and individual living environments. Six duplexes, seven stand-alone group homes, one apartment building and a central community building, organized on 10.5 terraced, sloping acres, accommodate 707 students in single, double and triple bedroom units. The Best in American Living Award design competition salutes builders, architects, developers, land planners and interior designers nationwide, who create living environments that illustrate design quality and success in the marketplace.
